The originals are much crisper and are engraved signatures. copies have acid etched signatures.
Originals were either of Glass or a mixture of Bronze and Glass.
Some have been copied by other manufacturers so please ensure the Lalique Signature is on the piece.
The range of semi-draped or nude ladies and the Eagle Head mascots. are very collectible and some collectors almost fight for these.
Much in demand is The VICTOIRE hood ornament ( a ladies head with Fying hair streaming back)
Beware of - chips and scratches on the glass are not unusual and are a sign sometimes of authenticity as it shows the piece probably was used on a car.
Car Mascots often have the bronze base removed and are used as rather classy paperweights - they lose value without the base.
Some earlier models were actually also produced as paperweights too.
One of the most beautiful Car Mascots was Grand Libellule (a dragonfly).
This one would glow in the dark with a lamp fitted beneath it.
Several other models were designed to be illuminated when the car was driven but some city councis stopped drives lighting up their car mascots as it distracted other drivers.
Some Car mascots were made in coloured glass but these are rare.
(Although some fakes are made in coloured glass)
Many were actually produced as paperweights and bookends.
