Steuben Glass
Steuben Glass starte in Corning NY in 1903 and started off making glass blanks for other companies.
At this time there was a boom in Art Glassmaking and many manufacturers either made specialist glass for other companies or made similar product to rival glass companies ( it is sometimes fairly hard to identify unmarked pieces because of this)
Some companies made similar pieces to major French Glassmakers .
It was not an intention to copy their work but as nowadys it was the fulfilment of a demand.
In the Art Nouveau period transatlantic travel had opened the world to different ideas and movements and American Glassmakers were quick at designing their own art glass pieces in their own modifications of French styles and other variants of American style.
This was of course the time of Daum and their Pate de Verre Glass and Laliques frosted and coloured pieces.
Carder produced beautiful coloured glass and invented Gold Aurene which was similar to iridescent art glass which was being produced by LC Tiffany among other companies. They eventally had over 7 thousand shapes of Art glassware in over 140 colour.
