Daum Pate de Verre
Pate de Verre is a French term meaning paste of glass.
In fact glass is very finely crushed and then mixed with a binding agent like gum arabic and water and often has enamels or dyes mixed in.
This makes a paste similar to that used in enamelling except that his past is appled to the inside of a gglass mould and evenly coated.
That then makes a hollow vessel with the coloured glass outside.
Sometimes this is done in layers and when cooled down the piece is ground or engraves to give diffenerent colour or textural effect.

Daum was founded in 1875 by Jean Daum who was later joined by his sones Auguste Daum and Antonin Daum.
They produced quite stunningly beautiful glass vases and other Art Nouveau Pieces.
The company still produces high quality glassware and is the only company still employing the Pate de Verre process for their Crystal Sculptures and their Art Glass
